I AM NOT IN THE WOODS.

So this will be brief because I just worked 8 hours today, went grocery shopping, had cereal for dinner & I’m exhausted. I worked for Alumni Weekend which was pretty cool but since I worked in the art gallery, I didn’t really get to speak to people about sciences, only about art. Even that was brief, because they wanted to talk to the artists about their interpretations. Plus, I was too busy reading the Sophie Kinsella – Twenties Girl. (great book if any of you want to read it… Eric haha)

Other than being luckily placed in an air-conditioned job area, I also love love research. It’s about pesticides & most of you probably don’t want to hear the details so I’ll spare you the boring chemical aspects about it. It does have to do with the environment though! The professor I work with is really nice and sometimes lets me off early if the machines aren’t working.I’m really excited to see how far we can go but also frustrated because we’re only on step one and it’s been week. I appreciate all those nobel prize winners out there in the world.

    Lastly,

I AM NOT IN THE WOODS. I got the bite from sitting on a bench on campus like any of you other people would. As displayed below, I got a hideous spider bite. Yes, it looks like a fucking cough drop/jelly bean growing out of my leg. I was bitten by a spider and I have NO IDEA what happened. It just swelled up and I can’t look at it. It’s so naaasttty. I have like 5 other bites that are red and swelling up like crazy but not like that awful tumor. The black line is what the doctor drew when I went to the ER. She told me to come back if the redness passes the line/the thing turns black, but I don’t think it will so I’ll be fine. Hopefully.

Hope you are all enjoying your wonderful summers wherever you are! (:

holy CRAP JUDY! That bite is humongo.. ): Don’t sit in those benches in the middle of the woods again.

Sounds like an amazing research job !!

I was JUST reading about pesticides.. sorta.. hahah

    where’d everyone go?

So it seems like our blog is…well correction, this blog is dying. So I decided to post (even though I already have like 90293402093493204 posts) because I don’t want to study for biology.

    Anyway guys, look what happened…

look at our rapid decline through the months

Yeah I was THAT bored, clicking around the site and I saw the graph and thought it looked interesting :P

So anyway, I hope you guys all start updating soon about your new wonderful college life. I know it’s hard because we’re all ilke 923094329 miles away from each other and aren’t experiencing the same things.  But, we don’t have time to always talk to each other so it’d be a nice way to catch up, sort of.

Updates on my part? I don’t hate college as much (for all of you who heard my endless rants) but I actually like it now. I’m taking Japanese drumming which is super cool. I’m going to get crazy arm muscles from this (hopefully). If you have no idea what it is, click on this link–> The rest of my classes are boring except for my english class<3. Who knew that a year of Baldwin actually HELPED me for this class? That’s right, all Baldwin haters, all of those literary dissections are actually useful later on!

One more thing, for those of you who haven’t started reading it yet, check out http://mlibths.tumblr.com/ which is very funny. There’s even a fb page and hoffy said:

Paul Hoftyzer I got yelled at by Juanita on the way in 2 mornings so far this week . . . And I’m an AP Chem Teacher!!!

Haha,  hope to see you guys soon. Oh yeah, and for those of you who don’t know, I’m staying at Swat this summer so I’ll only be home for 2 weeks in May and 2 weeks in August so I hope to see you guys sometime in those weeks (:

    Snowed in.

    Hey guys
It’s Debbie here at Penn with Judy and Karen. They came to visit yesterday afternoon and we were supposed to leave today on Bolt at 2:30PM but NOPE. I got an email this morning saying our bus got cancelled. I called my dad and he said he’ll pick us up tomorrow or whenever the snow dies. Sigh, it’s going to be a while. It’ll be ridiculous if I end up going home Monday, aka a week after my last final. We toured around my campus yesterday and watched Jersey Shore haha. Today, we had brunch (yum) and went to Center City to shop for a little bit. We were planning on going to Pat’s and Geno’s for cheese steaks, but it was still snowing like crazy and we were tired. Now, we’re back in my room. Judy’s napping. Karen’s texting? We’re about to order chinese take out. It’s STILL snowing! What the hell??

who’d you meet? MY NEIGHBOR?! – Jenny & Judy

So it’s 2 am right now, so Jenny and I are writing a collab post on our experience at Babson.

I took a bus from Philly to New York then a bus from New York to Boston. When I got on the Boston bus, I saw an empty seat next to this old lady and then I sat next to her because I was like whatever, she seems nice, it’s better than letting a total douchebag end up sitting next to you. Anyway, she talked to me first in PERFECT english and she was chinese. I was completely amazed so we kept talking and I learned a lot about her. Btw, along the way, within 30 minutes of getting out of the city, our fucking bus broke down so we had to wait 40 minutes for the next bus to pick us up. Throughout the duration, I learned she speaks Shanghainese, Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and lives across from NYU Downtown hospital. So when I FINALLY got to Boston, I saw Jenny and gave her a bear hug attack. Then as I was telling her how lucky I was to end up next to such a nice lady, she was telling me how she saw her neighbor before or at least she thought she did. As we continued talking, she goes wait, does she have grey hair, brown glasses, and speaks english really well? so I was like, yeah… and then she goes HOLY SHIT! and i said to her… do you live across from nyu downtown hospital? and we determined, that in fact, i spent 6 hours on the bus with jenny’s neighbor who’s a very nice lady and speaks english very well. AND she also knows what swarthmore is.

OKAY, so Jenny (aka SoHee) here…It’s been an amazing week so far. When I met up with Judy at the bus terminal, we literally squealed really loudly when we saw each other. Apparently we were so loud that a lot of people just stared at us. (Judy here, sorry to interrupt but she got MAD SHORT) OH F YOU JUDY DIEP. Yeah so we met up with Lisa and Penny and Wingkai at South Station and stupid Lisa was so excited that she ran up with stairs instead of the escalator. We went to this pretty expensive Korean Restaurant in Chinatown and met up with Ruwan, went to a chinese supermarket, and saw TWO big flying cockroach. We’re mad cool cause we stayed up playing scattergories yesterday night (money = bitches and bums), and taboo tonight. We also played pool, pacman, street fighter etc. we went to boston to shop and also had some ice cream yum.

    Review of Babson’s dorms.

    1) SHOWERS SUCK. water is so weak there with mysterious puddles on the ground.

    2) Penny’s room is mad small.

    3) Lisa’s room is packed with food and other stuff…

    4) Wingkai’s room is not as big as it seems in the vidchats & is very messy & DARK.

    5) stars are really pretty and there’s lots of trees with their leaves changing colors.

We also continuously made fun of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcvP3akMLh4

If you guys haven’t seen this, you’re missing out.

funny moment recap: so we were in penny’s room with taylor, her roommate (who’s really cool btw SHOUT OUT TO TAYLOR), talking about penny. we were just imitating her about shooting people with ak-47s while she was outside with lisa, and their friend david. so all of a sudden, penny hears us and STORMS IN  screaming I KNOW YOU’RE TALKING SHIT ABOUT ME GUYS. WTF GUYS TELL ME NOW. TAYLOR RHOADES TELL ME RIGHT NOW OR I’M GONNA FUCKING KILL YOU. so yeah, she was so loud, we think her whole hall heard her. typical penny.

p.s. penny is so od about her bed that everyone was shocked she even let us sleep on it. THAT’S RIGHT SHE LOVES US THAT MUCH.

anyway, we hope that you guys are all having fun in college. it was a fun weekend with all of our techies and meeting their new babson friends (with cars). we can’t wait to see you guys thanksgiving/christmas break.

i hate fake 2 am fire drills.

okay so story time about 2 am fire drills, i’m sure all of you have had one already.

so i was sleeping one night (it was saturday night) when some alarm went off. first instinct, omg it’s my alarm. so i switched the alarm off except the sound kept going off. i got pissed and i kept hitting the button because i thought i hit the snooze button and i went back to sleep thinking it was my roommate’s alarm clock. after dozing off for 5 minutes and STILL hearing that sound, i got up and tried to shut off my alarm since i was somehow convinced it wasn’t my roommate’s alarm clock since she never got up.  i changed the hours and hit the alarm button and THERE WAS STILL THAT FREAKING SOUND. pissed off, i unplugged my alarm clock and went back to sleep. after 5 minutes, i woke up again and realized that the alarm was still going off. then some genius idea popped into my brain that perhaps it was the fire alarm not the UNPLUGGED alarm clock and i opened the door only to discover that there were flashing bright white lights and a deafening alarm. yep, it was a fucking fire drill. so i turned on the light (mind you, my roommate is a heavy sleeper so she slept through the entire thing until i flicked on the light and woke her up). and she took the keys and we left.

it wasn’t even a real freaking fire drill. someone pulled the alarm and lots of people slept through the entire thing -.-

also, i went home 2 weekends ago and guess who i ran into, ALLISON! and i met up with Steph so it was nice to be home with real food. my mom made me some pho and other viet food yum<3

then this past weekend, this really awesome person by the name of Debbie came and visited me at Swarthmore (: When I showed her around, it looked like a GHOST TOWN, WHICH IS NOT HOW IT USUALLY IS I DID NOT KNOW WHY NO ONE WAS THERE. and then, our friend Chen drove us to Jersey where he lived where we got to eat at his family sushi’s restaurant (those freaking salmon rolls were soooooo good) and we stayed up playing rockband/talking/doing homework. and, yeah, i still owe you a visit to penn, dyiu.

oh one more thing, i’m going to Boston next Friday because i have a 10 day fall break suckers! expect a lot of random fb videos on all of your walls (:

so, everyone else here seems to be taking a lot of pictures of their campus, which i haven’t been doing, so i guess it’s my turn.

    adventure off campus -Judy

So, the other day, i went off campus with my friends because we were all really tired of our dining hall typical food and the local supermarket was giving out free sushi. sorry i didn’t take any pictures but it’s not like it’s worth it because the sushi wasn’t as fresh or as good as new york. omg, their wasabi is a funky green color and YELLOW ginger, i expected red ginger. we just sat in the grass and ate and i realized swarthmore neighborhood has a lot of asian families.

Then, I went to an improv comedy show which wasn’t that funny but better than nothing. i left early because my parents were visitng the next day and my friends wanted to go to the swim team party. So next day comes along and my parents visit yay! (yeah I know I shouldn’t be happy but I was because my mom, dad, uncle, aunt, and cousin all came to visit) I wasn’t the only one because EVERYONE’S families came to visit like this viet guy in my dorm. It was awkward because we never formally talked after we introduced each other and he said hi to my parents LOL. I had to keep warning my dad not to speak so loud (BECAUSE HE USES A SEE LAI VOICE) since they were around. Then, I gave them a whole tour of my gorgeous campus as my aunt acted like a tourist and took 209340923409 pictures. I also ran into my friend who’s asian and then my aunt kept asking me about him because he was “goodlooking” and “had a good face.” -.-

Anyway, then we all decided to sleep over my cousin’s house which takes forever. I OFFICIALLY HATE THE SEPTA. Omg, it’s so retarded. Not only can you not transfer at certain intervals (you have to take it all the way to Philly), all the fares are dependent on how far you are and my cousin has to live all the way at the freaking end of one of the rails while I’m at the end of the line for another rail (I spent over $20 bucks visiting her). So what should have been a 45 minute ride took more than 3 hours because the trains come every hour or two hours. But anyway, it was nice because we got to talk and be like a big happy family in the middle of nowhere. My uncle got creeped out because the crickets are so loud here.

Second day, we headed back as I blasted the music on my cousin’s stereo because I haven’t been able to blast music in awhile. I just stuck around campus with my parents for a bit and waited till I had my newspaper meeting and chemistry study group meeting. My friend then started talking about how kids were being abducted by their parents and forced to go home LOL. My friend got abducted friday night and i ran into her when my parents and I came back.

So that’s my weekend in a nutshell. Oh funny random story, remember that big chair i sat on? My friends and I were hanging out on the big chair when my friend just randomly started changing the words around from “I’m on a boat” to “I’m a chair” and within 10 minutes, after all those birds were circling us, my friend got pooped on LOL. And he kept freaking out and he was like omg omg can you see it? And he ran to the main bathroom to get it out but drawing attention to himself by hovering his hands over his head -.- and running franctically. But that is all, by the way, one thing i love about Swarthmore is how musical some of these people are, so I always go to practice rooms with them to hear them sing or play the piano. It’s pretty cool.

I also saw a cartoon that reminded me of Debbie and another one that reminded me of Karen from the supermarket. So I’ll post it up later since I have to study for Chem.

LOL, i know how you feel. I miss NY food cause it’s so good and inexpensive. sigh. But your weekend sounded like so much fun. Haha, I’ll have to remind my dad not to use his outdoor voice at all times, cause he tends to do that a lot…and it’s crazy embarrassing.
AW JUDY AND THE ASIAN GUY! <3 young love, how sweet. If he's semi-cute, you should totally go for it, b/c you know how Swarthmore guys are..LMAO. No offense, or anything.
I cannot believe your friend got pooped on, i hope he's not traumatized.
So it's good that you're adjusting well Judy!! I'm so glad :)

if dogs don’t party, then cats DEFINITELY don’t party – Judy

So today, is the official day where I had ALL of my classes! The quote above comes from my sociology class that is based on environmental studies. So I guess I should all give you a slight recap of that class whether or not you like it :P . Today, the THREE HOUR CLASS, with only 12 students, started out really slow. I was falling asleep and thinking “Shit Judy, why the hell did you sign up for this?! It’s TORTURE!” Then, as we got into the discussion, we talked about the symbolism of apples and how they’ve become “manufactured.” So as we were getting caught up in the discussion, I was thinking, oh this is pretty interesting but I couldn’t help but think of what you guys would say (especially Penny) “can’t i just eat that damn shiny apple already?” After talking about apples, my professor brought out a bag of snuasages which are dog treats “PARTY SNACKS IN A PARTY SACK FOR DOGS!” She was appalled I guess that they would promote the idea of dogs partying and that there would be people who would buy such products in a neat little package(THIS SCREAMED ALLISON!) Here’s a picture of the packaging,

Then, we talked about how people try to put children traits on to dogs becuase some couples can’t have kids or what not and I mentioned how there’s lots of people who push dogs in strollers LOL. She said there was one for cats too and hence, the above quote. Anyway, this class I thought was going to be really boring but it turned out to be pretty interesting and the three hours went by pretty quickly (okay fine she did let us go half an hour early but that’s the beauty of college)

As for my other classes, it’s the basics – math (second semester of calc), chem, and physics. Physics is nice because the professor is starting out slow and has an obsession with cars so it’s pretty funny. Chem is awesome because my professor is also my academic advisor and she’s so put together and friendly and already knows my name yay! Let’s hope I can get a recommendation from her for any programs I’m applying to. The Chem department also had an “ice cream social” where you get to watch them mix liquid nitrogen with the mixture to make real ice cream, it was cool, wasn’t sure if it was safe to eat it but it tasted good. Math is a complete nightmare because he jumped right into the topics and I’m so lost so… I’ll see if I plan on taking another course like Introduction to Education!

Overall, college has been pretty fun. Orientation was dragged out a little too long in my opinion but other than that, classes were good. Technically, I only have one class left, aquatics, but that’s only twice a week so I’ll find out how that goes since it starts tomorrow. A few notes on college though as some of you may already know, THERE’S SO MUCH READING. I have to read approximately 80 pages by next week for my sociology class if not more. As for my chem class, I have to read 3 chapters that I’ll be tested on next week. I’m so lost in math, so forget about that. But also, don’t forget you can always drop classes (: Oh and the nice thing about college is that classes are typically really small at my school, so like if there’s a class with 30, the teacher complains and wants to make it smaller HAHA. Whereas at tech, a class of 30 is considered to be small…

    Random thoughts

-I will definitely take more pictures soon when it hits fall so that I can show you guys how pretty it is when the leaves fall and all that. it’s already pretty now but ridiculously cold in the morning and at night. actually, a lot of the club meetings are at night so if i happen to call around 9 or 10, i just don’t have a walking buddy and I am extremely creeped out and want to talk to someone.

-I haven’t been to any parties yet so I don’t really know how they are but there are only like once a week at the same place, with a random theme, which sounds pretty lame.

    • The FOOD HERE SUCKS, I’m sorry Penny, but I might become a vegetarian because I don’t like any of the fried stuff here. I eat most of the vegetarian options. I miss my pho, will some new york people ship me good quality food like shakeshack, red mango (even their frozen yogurt is ugh), pomme frites, and bonchon chicken? thanks :D but i guess the one plus is that they have that hot sauce all asians use – siracha hahhaa.

Anyways, I hope I didn’t bored you guys to tears with my recaps BUT I should get reading soon since I have math homework that I don’t  understand as well as a meeting around 8 pm =( . Oh yeah speaking of which, I’m deciding which club to drop since i have like five (swarthmore asian organization, photography club, sibshop, the phoenix, rotaract club, and i also plan on volunteering at the hospital in philly) so yeah, i’m deciding between the rotaract club or the phoenix. the phoenix will eventually turn into a paid job if i don’t get cut btw but the rotaract is more of what i’m looking into? i’m not sure any suggestions? miss you all very much<3

LOL WHAT IS WITH YOU AND PHOENIX!? you used it once in a game of contact! rotaract club?!?! JOIN THE DDR CLUB!

    • Allison 9:23 pm on September 2, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I’d say go for the rotaract club (not sure what it is) since even if you get paid at phoenix I don’t think you should work WHILE you have classes and a bajillion other clubs. Just sounds like extra stress to me.

Ohh I can’t wait to see the photos you take now that you’re in photography club. (: And you’re post is scaring me. Well, the idea of college anyway.

TESTS, QUIZES, READING – ho shit.

and LOLOLOL I HAVE THAT DOG TREAT! I’m a sucker for packaging. I bought the beggin strips too.

a whole new tiny world – Judy

Hey guys, I’m writing from my BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS CAMPUS, trust me it looks nothing like Staten Island (sorry Stephanie).

As for other things, move-in wasn’t so bad considering my parents had to take the chinatown bus and septa to come visit me but I had very nice people with shopping carts (yay shopping cart dance!) to help me move in. Then, the rest of the day, we broke up into groups and had ice breakers like Karen but I didn’t have any awkward ones. I did lose my group though LOL and was known as the “lost” one but I found my group in  the end.

All of yesterday, we were basically introduced to the people of my hall so we all get to come up with activities and “study breaks” – one of the guys offered to teach us how to bartend since someone he knew went to bartending school I think or someone he knew did.

Today, I had more free time to go hiking through the trails of my school because it’s freaking huge and is like a forest (a very pretty forest). I also went touring and took a picture with one of the most recognized symbol of my school, the bigass chair.

Look how tiny I am compared to the chair

In-between stuff aren’t really interesting except when I had lunch with my campus advisor group, we already started gossiping and found out who has loud sex every night LOL.

We also had a candle-lighting ceremony which was interesting but weird at the same time. One of speaker had a really soothing and storytelling voice. It was very pretty though it was held in our outdoor theater. But yeah, coming to Swarthmore made me realize how smart people can be, not just smart but so well-rounded culturally and geographically (THEY TRAVEL EVERYWHERE!) One of the people here basically discovered some kind of machine (in highschool) that can detect bone marrow and some other complicated processes and just recently turned sixteen so yeah insanely smart. My campus is really small so I guess I’ll end up meeting all of these people really soon.

    Candlelighting Ceremony isn't it pretty?

Anyways, college has been pretty fun so far (the nice campus helps), recommendations for people who are about to move in: SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE AND EAT BREAKFAST AND LUNCH. Or else you’re going to be dropdead tired.

Btw, notice how I didn’t mention anything about food. It’s not that great. It’s decent but I started craving for random korean and viet food LOL. But going off campus for dinner in the next couple of days.

One more thing, I didn’t take a lot of pictures of my dorm but I just thought that I should include this.

now i’m scared that i won’t be able to keep up with the smart people in my school :( don’t worry, i’ll teach you how to bartend when i learn ;)

Wow sounds great, Glad you’re having fun~

TAKE MORE PICTURES OF THE GREENARY PLEASE, it looks amazing. kthx

And you can totally have a study session group thing on that chair in the afternoons. That would be amazing.
I’m sure you’re just as smart as the other kids, if not, smarter. haha get some rest and have fun !

if i was on that big chair i think i’ll just fall through the cracks.

and as everyone said: i don’t trust you with fire even though you were in chem major i don’t trust chem kids and fire

and psh the smart kids i bet they’re saying the same exact thing about you

Aww Judy it looks really nice there. I got worried for a second there when I was reading about you hiking good job on not getting lost LoL. love you. haha.

Don’t you just envy those kids who got to travel while we’re stuck at home because of overprotective parents. I can’t study abroad! But I’m working on it. Hopefully.

by the way thats an awesome chair. I thought you photoshopped yourself into it or something.
